My Views about the novel To The Lighthouse by Virginia woolf
To The Lighthouse
1) Virginia Woolf's using the Technique of Cons
ciousness and we can see
the complexity of human relationship, about their life, everyday battles
with near and dear ones, and also class conflicts and all.. with the
help of all techniques she wants to show about people and their
mentality. People's behavior and stage of mind like conscious and
unconscious. Woolf also shares one of her primary narrative techniques.
"Stream of consciousness" refers to a mode of narrative that follows the
line of a character’s thoughts and also its related with psychological
approach. I would like to say that "Stream of consciousness" includes
emotions to guide the reader and gives shape the narrative. Feminist
approach here we can see that woolf describe and shown many things by
people's mind their thoughts. " Use of Silence " is also one type of
narrative technique where She creates the impression of silence through
the introduction of some images. In short i want to say that in "TO THE
LIGHTHOUSE" she not only freely used the "stream of consciousness"
skills but through a large number of image to convey the own feminist
ideas.
2)i am agree with that.." The novel is both the
tribute and critique of Mrs. Ramsay". Mrs. Ramsay, who is the is the
stereotypical mother-figure and even Lily who admits at times to being
in love with it all. She is caring person but many thing does show that
how her life has been a sacrifice for others. Lily who the reader is
positioned to value as the voice that delivers the whole picture and
with the help of picture she express her views, yes she loves Mrs Ramsay
but reveals her shortcomings.
3) " To The Lighthouse " is very symbolic novel where we also find many symbolic images.Symbols like..include the lighthouse, waves, the window, the boar's skull, and the fruit basket. For example Waves represent hills and valleys as a normal part of life. For example..The fruit basket that Rose arranges for Mrs. Ramsay's dinner party symbolizes the unity that may be out of disparity. Thus To The lighthouse popularly symbolises light and hope also up down of our life.
4) Two myths, Oedipus myth and Pagan Myth. Here we can see the complexity between two myths. Both myths are presented in the novel very well and in some extent it is very symbolical. Oedipus myth also shows gender oppositions and womanhood. One thing that related with those myths that is the relation between James and Mrs. Ramsey. It shows that Woolf would extend the Oedipal complex throughout the novel. Words are also very symbolical like “The Window” and “The Lighthouse.” So mythical views are also very well presented in the novel.
5) To The Lighthouse is also a ‘Kunstlerroman’ novel and it describes artist progress, development and "artist's novel". In some content the central character is an artist of any kind. In this novel characters and novel it self faces many artistic struggles like Lily’s character, who feels a lot struggles in her life.
8) At last we knows that Lily Briscoe completed her painting but there is something missing and that thing she realised after completed her drawing because she wants to draw Mrs. Ramsay's painting but at the end she can not because Mrs. Ramsay is a great personality and not only about Mrs. Ramsay but to paint someone's personality is very difficult and at the end that thing realised by Lily Briscoe.Thank you..
